Autonomasia, 一看这个单词就觉得带病，尽管金山词霸网络版对这个单词的唯一解释"遗忘性命名不能"也和疾病有关，Merriam Webster的今日英语单词却偏偏给出了新的解释。在韦氏字典里，autonomasia和疾病没有什么关系，相反，还是一个有点褒义的词汇。比如说，人们用吟游诗人(the Bard）称呼莎士比亚的时候，人们用所罗门(Solomon）称呼一位明君之时，都是在使用autonomasia的说话方式。自16世纪起，antonomasia在英文中开始给名字命名。简单来说，autonomasia有两层意思，第一层就是指用一种正式得体的方式称呼某个社会阶层的成员，另一层就是用绰号或头衔来指代某人的正式的名字。上面的两个例子分别是第二层和第一层的意思了。对于autonomasia的第二层含义，我还能从"斗士"两个字联想到鲁迅。
来自拉丁文的英文单词autonomasia可以追溯到希腊文动词antonomazein，用新名字称呼（to call by a new name）的意思。其中，onoma是希腊名词"名字"的意思。从onoma演化来的几个英文单词有onomatopoeia(用当地发音为一个地方命名the naming of something in imitation of the sound associated with it), polyonymous(有多个名字), 和toponymy(一个地区的当地名字，the place-names of a region).
